Always on the move, 54blue jumpe at the chance to complete strides new Calgary retail store build-out

Completing a Calgary retail store build-out that was about the size of a shoe box was just the start, and very fitting for a running store.

Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run

The owners of Strides wanted to move to the next retail level. A detailed store design opened their eyes to the future, launching out two new locations and an expansion of the original site.

WHAT WE DID

54blue fixed the main issues Strides was having in the retail environment with a well-thought-out consumer experience that was not only original, but easy to understand.

Design

The planning and design of any consumer space has to be both sustainable and repeatable. Spending an afternoon at the original location and going through the experience from both the customer’s and the sales associates’ point of view highlighted some glaring issues. The store’s super small space was crowded with lots of product, and customers needed more room to sit while trying on shoes.

Coming up with a decentralized seating structure and taking the shoes off the wall were key to fixing all the issues. We made space for clothing on the walls, created remarkable personalized areas to try on shoes and added two new, private changing rooms. We found easy ways to squeeze lots of features into the same tiny footprint.

Retail build

Gutting and building out the original location made extending the brand into two new locations a breeze. With slightly larger footprints, the new stores came together with precision. Success bred success, and eventually, the original location, which was designed with sustainability in mind, was disassembled and moved to the larger footprint next door. Every element was repurposed, down to the last screw.

Print

No space is complete without a dash of print. The design team worked with Strides and local photographers to produce the perfect combination of community and commerce. Final files were delivered to our in-house print lab to put in the final touches.

The resulting dimensional lettering and wall wraps drive the brand within the spaces to tell the perfect story of Strides.

Maintenance

Nothing lasts forever in retail. Your suppliers come and go, seasons pass, and general wear and tear occurs – all of which drive maintenance. 54blue provides new, creative and fresh ideas that flow into spaces as an ongoing evolution.
